The UP LT Grade Teacher Exam is a state-level recruitment examination conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) for the selection of Assistant Teachers in Government Inter Colleges.
This article is based on the experience of a selected candidate (Maths), Kritika Shukla. It provides a practical roadmap for aspirants preparing for LT Grade, TGT, and PGT teacher exams.
Exam Pattern (2025–26)
Phase 1 – Prelims Examination
- Total Questions: 150 MCQs
- Total Time: 120 Minutes
- Marking Scheme: 2 marks for each correct answer
- Negative Marking: 1/3 mark deducted for each wrong answer
The paper is divided into two sections:
- First Section – 30 Questions (GS/GK)
- Second Section – 120 Questions (Subject Specific)
Mode of Exam – Offline (OMR Based)
Exam Dates – 06 December 2025 to 25 January 2026
Eligibility –
A Bachelor’s degree in the relevant subject along with a B.Ed degree.
Phase 2 – Mains Examination (Descriptive)
- Total Questions – 20
- 10 Short Questions
- 10 Long Questions
- Duration – 3 Hours
- Marking Scheme:
- Short Questions – 8 marks each
- Long Questions – 12 marks each
- Negative Marking – No negative marking
Mains Exam Date – 17 May 2026 (for Maths/Hindi/English).

Competition Level
The competition in this exam is very high.
- Total Registrations – 1,86,989
- Candidates Appeared – Approximately 99,055
- Candidates Qualified for Mains – 2,260
Only around 2% of candidates qualified for the Mains examination. Due to center mismanagement and other issues, nearly 50% of registered students did not appear for the exam.
Experience of a Selected Candidate (Maths)
Hritika Shukla qualified the Prelims in the Mathematics subject. According to her:
- Analyzing previous year papers (TGT, PGT, and LT Grade) is very important.
- However, do not rely only on previous year questions.
- Sometimes the paper deviates slightly from the syllabus.
- Questions may be lengthy.
- Some questions may be from higher mathematics, while sometimes more focus is given to the 10+2 level.
Therefore, preparation should be balanced and concept-oriented.
5 Important Hacks to Crack LT Grade / TGT / PGT
- Concept clarity is the most important factor.
Your approach should be clear so that you can solve questions quickly and accurately.
Prepare short notes for high-weightage topics. - Start preparation early.
Ideally, dedicate at least 6–7 months for serious preparation.
Most students prepare only 2–3 months after the notification, which affects speed and accuracy. - Follow regular guidance.
Whether it is coaching or an online platform, consistency is key.
Maintain a structured study routine. - Practice tests daily.
Solve subject-wise questions regularly.
Attempt weekly mock tests to improve speed and accuracy. - Have a smart attempt strategy.
Hritika attempted 109 questions in the LT Grade 2025–26 exam.
The Mathematics paper was lengthy.
Approximately 90+ of her answers were correct.
This shows that attempting every question is not necessary; selecting the right questions is more important.

Note: Some books like Ghatna Chakra and Youth Competition may contain errors. Use them mainly to understand trends and question frequency.
Daily practice sheets and regular test papers are also highly beneficial.
Daily Study Plan
Study at least 4–5 hours daily for self-preparation.
Work on both speed and accuracy.
Revise weekly and attempt mock tests regularly.
Final Advice
Cracking LT Grade, TGT, and PGT exams requires both hard work and smart work.
Keep your concepts clear.
Improve your speed.
Maintain accuracy.
Stay consistent.
If you prepare with discipline for 6–7 months, selection is definitely possible.
