Freeze vs Float: What Should You Choose?
Freeze
Select Freeze if you are satisfied with your allotted college and branch and do not wish to participate in further rounds.
Float
Select Float if you want to keep your current seat but still wish to be considered for higher preferred choices in subsequent rounds.
Choosing the correct option can significantly affect your final admission outcome.
UPTAC 2026 Fee Waiver Scheme (TFW): Get Admission Without Paying Tuition Fees
One of the biggest advantages available for economically weaker students in UPTAC 2026 counselling is the Tuition Fee Waiver (TFW) Scheme. Under this scheme, eligible students can pursue their degree without paying tuition fees.
Courses Eligible for Fee Waiver Seats
The Fee Waiver Scheme is available for admissions in:
BHMCT
BFAD
BFA
B.Des
B.Pharm
MCA
MBA
This means students seeking admission through UPTAC MCA 2026 and UPTAC MBA 2026 can also benefit from the scheme.
Tuition Fee Benefit
Students admitted under Fee Waiver seats are exempted from paying tuition fees for the entire duration of the course. However, hostel fees, examination fees, and other institutional charges may still be applicable as per institute rules.
Number of Fee Waiver Seats
Fee Waiver seats are limited to a maximum of 5% of the approved intake in a particular course.
These seats are supernumerary, meaning they are created in addition to the regular sanctioned intake and do not reduce the number of regular seats available for admission.
For example, if an MCA program has an approved intake of 60 seats, up to 3 additional Fee Waiver seats may be available under the scheme.
College Eligibility for Offering Fee Waiver Seats
An institution can offer Fee Waiver seats only if at least 50% of the approved intake of that course was filled during the previous academic year.
Documents Required
Candidates willing to claim Fee Waiver benefits must submit Certificate No. 12 (Income Certificate) during document verification and counselling.
Fee Waiver and EWS Are Different
Many students confuse Fee Waiver seats with the EWS reservation category. However, the UPTAC brochure clearly states that these are two separate provisions.
EWS provides reservation benefits.
Fee Waiver provides tuition fee exemption.
A candidate belonging to EWS may not necessarily get a Fee Waiver seat, and similarly, candidates eligible under the income criteria may receive Fee Waiver benefits even if they do not belong to the EWS category.
B.Arch Students Are Not Eligible
The Tuition Fee Waiver Scheme is not available for B.Arch courses under UPTAC counselling.
Availability During Counselling
The exact number of Fee Waiver seats available in each institute and category will be displayed during the counselling and choice filling process. Candidates interested in availing this benefit should carefully check the seat matrix while filling their choices.
Final Advice for UPTAC 2026 Aspirants
Register during Round 1 without fail.
Keep all required documents ready before counselling starts.
Fill maximum possible choices to improve admission chances.
Prefer Float in early rounds if you expect better options.
Complete physical reporting on time after seat allotment.
Participate in internal sliding if a better branch is available in your institute.
UPTAC counselling is a multi-stage process, and candidates who stay active throughout all rounds generally secure better colleges and branches compared to those who exit early from the process.
Stay updated with official notifications and counselling announcements to avoid missing any important deadline.
