What is NIMCET?

NIMCET stands for NIT MCA Common Entrance Test. It is a national-level online exam for admission into MCA (Master of Computer Applications) programs offered by several NITs (National Institutes of Technology) and some IIITs in India. Since 2007, it has been the main exam to get into these institutes for MCA courses.
Participating Institutes and Seat Details
- In 2025, 13 institutes participated in NIMCET:
- 11 NITs: Agartala, Allahabad, Bhopal, Delhi, Jamshedpur, Kurukshetra, Meghalaya, Patna, Raipur, Trichy, Warangal
- 2 IIITs: IIIT Bhopal and IIIT Vadodara
- Together, these institutes offer around 1,285 MCA seats. Some seats are self-financed, especially in NIT Delhi, Kurukshetra, Patna, and IIIT Vadodara.

- Most NITs offer a 2-year MCA programme.
- NIT Warangal offers a 3-year MCA with an exit option after 2 years (PG Diploma)

- Average packages at top NITs: ₹7–14 lakh per annum
- Other NITs: ₹4–7 lakh per annum
- MCA graduates from NITs enter domains such as software development, data analytics, cloud computing, cybersecurity, etc.
Examination History and Organizing Authority
- First conducted in 2007; a total of 19 exam cycles by 2025
- Conducted each year by one of the participating NITs on rotational basis
- NIT Tiruchirappalli conducted the 2025 exam
- 2026 conducting institute not yet officially announced
Important Dates for NIMCET 2025
- Registration opened: April 17, 2025
- Last date to apply and pay fee: May 16, 2025
- Correction window: May 19–21, 2025
- Admit card release: May 29, 2025
- Exam date: June 8, 2025 (2 PM – 4 PM)
- Result declaration: June 27, 2025 (5 PM)
- Counselling and Round 1 choice-filling: Late June – early July
- Final seat confirmation: early to mid-July 2025
Eligibility Criteria for NIMCET 2025
To be eligible for NIMCET, you must
- Be an Indian citizen.
- Have a 3-year undergraduate degree (B.Sc., BCA, BIT, or equivalent) with Mathematics or Statistics studied for at least one year (two semesters), OR have a B.E./B.Tech degree from a recognized university.
- Have a minimum of 60% marks or 6.5 CGPA (for General, OBC, and EWS categorie) .
- Have a minimum of 55% marks or 6.0 CGPA (for SC, ST, and PwD categories).
- Final-year students can apply provisionally but must submit their degree certificate by September 2025.
- There is no age limit and no restriction on the number of attempts
